Dreich
Cold December barely light,
Persistent rain just falls and falls
monochromatic world.
Devoid of colour, devoid of life
birds on branches
hunker and huddle
their sodden feathers no good for flight.
The Solstice it came and left
hatches have been battened down
For sleet and snow call on the wind
But today, just endless monotonous
stair rods of rain
Today, grey, devoid,
soul smothering damp squib
So put another log on the fire
take comfort in the flames
For today is a dreich day
