Farewell Dear Christmas
The halls already decked, the season has been jolly,
as dehydrated pine needles fawn over a lethargic holly
We have feasted well, sated most of our desire,
whilst proverbial chestnuts roast slow over the embered log fire.
Weakened we baulk at the sight of yet another mince pie,
Whilst day after day we drank the overflowing cup dry.
From eve to eve we stood true, trenchermen at heart,
Now, our preeminent desire is for the season to depart.
So let’s put away the empty glass and begin once again
For the new year strides in like a resung refrain
Resolutions like silken words dance to a familiar flow
As dry January, exercise, eat more salads,
well let’s give it a go.
